Kampala University claims NSUFL title as they edge Nkumba University

The long awaited finals of the Nile Special University Football League (NSUFL) finally unfolded on Saturday, 19 November 2016 as Nkumba University locked horns with Kampala University in a contest the two institutions aimed to be crowned 2016 champions.

The match was played at Mandela National stadium, Nambole where Kampala University hit Nkumba University 3-2 in what was termed as a heated contest.

Nkumba University were the first to sign their name on the score sheet at the 27th minute. Kampala University’s Muwanga Experito touched the ball within the 18-yard box and Nkumba’s Martin Sseruwagi stepped up to score on the spot.

Kampala University responded quickly through skipper, Nicholas Kabonge who thumped a curly free kick hence levelling matters.

Nkumba University almost regained the lead just before the break when Alex Wasswa thumped a hard shot only to be blocked by Norman Ndyamuhaki who was in the right position for a block.

None the less they regained the lead just two minutes after the break through Alex Wasswa who sent Kampala University’s number one the wrong and could not avoid the ball hitting the back of the net.

The 2-1 lead gave Nkumba huge confidence as they hyped the tempo of the game with accurate passing, big possession and anything you can think of. A lot of thrilling performance was witnessed from Gwoko and Moses Bunga who dominated the mid field and proved to be a power house for the Entebbe based University.

Nkumba University’s title ambitions were put on hold at the 86th minute when Kampala University’s Nicholas Kabonge levelled issues to extend the match to extra time.

Meanwhile Kampala University head coach, Vincent Tumusiime opted for penalty shoot outs rather than playing for more 30 minutes but his plea landed on deaf ears.

Just at the Genesis of extra time, Kampala University took the lead through Abdul Walusimbi who made matters 2-3 in favour of Vincent Tumusiime’s men

Vincent Tumusiime attributed the win to passion and confidence from his men and looks forward to winning more trophies in the future.

On the other side, Nkumba University head coach, Patrick Ssebuliba appreciated the performance of his men despite the loss. ‘’We have come a long way and to reach here was an uphill task, despite the loss, my men need to be appreciated,’’ he added.
